The definition of art in the 21st century is ever expanding, inclusive, and interdisciplinary. An interdisciplinary focus acknowledges the parallels between established disciplines and encourages innovative directions in art making to emerge. Inspired by the ubiquitous novelty of the ceramic Chia Pet™ figurine, I often combine ceramic materials and living plants, with refashioned commercial products.
Ecological issues are linked to a diverse array of creative operations and tactics in order to extend the “knowledge of the moment”, demonstrate the fragile connection between the natural world and personal action, and offer simple, positive changes that can be enacted to increase sustainability -- an activity that can be replicated long after the artist has moved on
